Fig at the Fairmont Hotel Santa Monica – UPDATED
Fig is inside the Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica. The pretty, wood-paneled bar sets off the sleek, elegant decor of the restaurant. The windows look out over the pool, tropical gardens and bungalows.

Happy Hour: Fig’s Happy Hour is extraordinarily busy. Tuesday through Sunday between 5pm-6pm every single thing on the menu except the steaks are 50% off.
What to drink: Drinks are 1/2 price- making premium liquor and fine wines reasonable. The house chardonnay is wonderful.
What to eat: Fig’s menu is diverse and features fresh ingredients. We had the Brussels Sprouts with Bacon and Cider Vinegar-which was another take on the new IT vegetable and the Braised Tongue with tomatillo and breakfast radish which melted-in-your-mouth with a delicious spicy sauce. We also had the Scallops which came with cauliflower, Tuscan kale, pine nuts and currants and were plump and perfectly cooked. The Short Ribs came with artichokes, truffle macaroni and upland cress and was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection.
Updated 2/19/13: We recently went back to Fig and had a decadent and delicious meal. We started with the Bacon Wrapped Bacon which was rich and wonderful. A thick slice of bacon is rolled so that it is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It is served over Maryann’s green tomatoes, avocado and greens–and if you like bacon, you’ll love this. For our entrees, Mimi had the 8 ounce California Prime Steak aged 32 days which was tender, juicy and perfectly cooked. I had the Meatloaf which came with Short Rib, Pancetta Mashed Potatoes, Carrots and Brussels Sprouts. I love meatloaf and this was the best I have ever ate.
