Typhoon at the Santa Monica Aiport
Typhoon at the Santa Monica Airport offers views of a different sort than the Marina restaurants we’ve been frequenting lately but is no less charming or picturesque. With the small planes landing and the fresh fish Typhoon is known for, this is a great space for Happy Hour.
Here’s the Deal
Happy Hour: Monday through Friday 5pm tp 7pm. Drink specials for $5 and food specials for $4-$6.
What to drink: We had both red and white wine. Typhoon offers a great variety of wines on their happy hour menu. For the reds, you can choose from a merlot or a syrah. For the whites, you can choose from a chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc or reisling.
What to eat: The “Ma La Dumplings” for $5 were delicious as were the “Bones” – Thai garlic short ribs for $6. We also ordered the “Pig in a Pillow” which was a Taiwanese sausage in a steamed bun with vegetables and tamarind sauce for $6. The sausage was good and the steamed bun was wonderful though a bit heavy for the lower calorie Healthy Happy Hour.
We ordered the Big Fresh House Salad for $9 off the main menu and it was good and large enough for two to share.
Parking: There is ample parking in the main terminal of the Santa Monica airport, where this restaurant is located.
Host to Meet: The host/owner Brian Vidor is part of the original Warner Brothers family and Typhoon has been a Santa Monica institution for over 20 years. He is a good host and offers great suggestions as to what to order.
