Tortilla Republic on Robertson

Tortilla Republic

616 North Robertson
West Hollywood

Tortilla Republic, in the former Fat Fish space, has been completely re-done as a breezy but sleek new space with Mexican themes. The space’s thatched wood ceiling, white onyx bar, tastefully textured light gray walls and polished dark wood trim and furniture create a fabulous ambience as an ultra modern Mexican restaurant with a really cool West Hollywood crowd.

 Here’s the Deal

Happy Hour:  Tuesday through Sunday 4pm-7pm with food and drink specials.

What to drink:  For the wine drinkers, Tortilla Republic has a good Argentinian red and white wines served in a carafe for $6- it is a really generous serving.  House Margaritas and Jalapeno Margaritas are also $6.  For the beer drinkers, a Modelo or Corona is $4.  Martinis are not on the Happy Hour Menu, but a Ketel One drink is $13.

What to eat: We had the carnitas taco which was light, flavorful and delicious with crispy pork, carmelized orange, pickled jalepeno, tomatillo frsca, served in soft corn tortillas with guacamole for $6.  We also had the BBQ Chicken Quesadilla with pulled chicken breast, roasted corn, papaya BBQ sauce, and cilantro in a flour tortilla.  The Jalapeno Croquetas – charred jalapeno folded with potatoes and goat cheese and then fried for $6 were amazing.  You can also get a salsa tasting for $2 that comes with Salsa de Mesa, Salsa Oaxaca, Salsa de Tomatillo Cruda and tortilla chips.

To make your Happy Hour healthier, order the delicious and filling Ensalada de Casa off the regular (non happy hour) menu for $8. The entire happy hour menu is full of light, flavorful, thoroughly modern take on Mexican food.

Parking: There is City of West Hollywood parking lot just to the east of the restaurant that is well-marked by signage and is just $1 per hour.

Bartenders to meet: Owen is a tall, good-looking bartender who is also a screenwriter. He works Happy Hour on Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays and is polite and full of great food and drink suggestions. Also, Joanna, the bar manager, who is an interesting combination of Hawaiian and Danish descent, carefully selects the best possible reds and whites for happy hour.
